Project 366, March 2016
/March is ending, and it's time to look back on this month's photos.
Flowers are starting to bloom, and it's not surprising that there are a lot of flower shots this month. I even did a few in the UW Quad during cherry blossom season.
My favorite shot of the month was taken on my walk home. At the beginning of the month, there was a bit of daylight as I left work, but now that Daylight Saving Time is in effect, there's quite a bit of sunlight even when I get home. On this particular day, the clouds over Ravenna Park were striking. The sun was low enough in the horizon to provide nice lighting for the trees and clouds. Since I didn't have my telephoto lens with me, I cropped a bit so the crows wouldn't get lost. I like how the clouds and trees have very different textures that go well together.
When I got off the bus going to work, I tried to swing by the Quad several times to check out not only the cherry blossoms but also the people looking at them. One morning I saw this couple enjoying the blooms and watching the people. When I processed this shot, I lightened up the background a bit to give a bit more tonal separation between the couple and the trees, giving more of a sense of depth to the shot.
For this last shot, I really liked how the tree's shadow lined up with the actual tree, as well as how saturated the colors were. I was able to pul out enough detail in the trunk, and the angle of the sun made a great accent separating the canopy edge from the sky and tree.
